Energy Efficiency drives bottom line savings

Acting on analysis

The information provided by a power quality analysis [link] is the first step in determining and correcting the cause of power quality problems. It’s just like being a power sleuth…utilizing long experience and in-depth knowledge to assess and eliminate possible causes until the fewest number are left. If there’s an opportunity to replicate PQ problems, this increases the certain of the cause and the correction.

We have solutions

We know power quality and power quality solutions. More importantly, we know how to properly apply power quality solutions. We say that because PQ solutions are not always “plug-and-play”. Sometimes PQ solutions can introduce their own problems or issues.

Power correction pays for itself

When you need power quality correction solutions, call on our PQ specialists.  You may be paying for hidden costs in nuisance breaker trips that halt production, system errors, reactive power utility charges, and shortened equipment life.  We can reduce operating cost while improving the reliability of your system.

Power correction examples

Specifically designed capacitor products are commonly used to correct low power factor (PF) to avoid PF charges levied by electric utilities. This is a relatively simple fix unless the local electric system also has a significant level of harmonics. However, many common electrical devices and electrical components can produce harmonics:

  • Magnetic-cored devices
  • DC power supplies
  • Fluorescent lighting ballasts
  • Variable frequency drives (VFDs)

Installation process

Installing PF correction hardware without evaluating the harmonic currents in a system can result in harmonic resonance which can a variety of problems including equipment overheating, tripped circuit breakers and failed capacitors.

Ferroresonant transformers have been used as voltage regulators for decades. However, they are extremely energy inefficient, produce large amounts of heat and generate harmonics. Modern electronic voltage regulators are much more energy efficient, produce little heat and generate virtually no harmonics.
